Women’s 1 emerged victorious against St Andrews University in the Final of the Scottish Student Cup at the University of Dundee on 9th February.
After a successful qualification tournament the week before in which they went 3 wins out of 3, they qualified to the Semi Finals where they faced their club team mates Women’s 2.
After a great display and fight by W2, Women’s 1 emerged victorious to set up the final with St Andrews. W2 lost 2 matches in the whole competition against the eventual finalists which is a great showing.
In the Final, W1 raced off to a 2-0 sets lead with some dogged play which frustrated their opponents. Some good decision making by setter Rachele Cavina topped with accurate spiking by opposite Kennedy Mason put the team in the driving seat. Captain Rachel Morrison kept the team going in the first two sets but St Andrews found a new lease of life in Set 3.
W1 kept going throughout the set but St Andrews intensity was raised and W1 just couldn’t match that.
Onto Set 4 and the game was going back and forth but at 24-23, Rachele managed to find the planned attack through our right side and Kennedy stuck to the plan and caught the opposition defence unaware with a tight cross court hit.
The Women’s SSS Cup was a success for the both teams finishing 1st and 3rd.
